You don think about how important shoes are until it a need and a necessity, and it really is in this community. is thrilled to have Sale, his wife, Brianne, and FGCU which is helping collect donations and with getting the word out join the Laces of Love team.

Sale was the 13th overall draft pick in 2010, and is one of just five players in Major League Baseball history to play for the big league team the year he was drafted. He already is a three time All Star, and finished third in the American League Cy Young voting after going 12 4 with a 2.17 ERA last season.

Sale wife, the former Brianne Aron, was his college sweetheart, and the couple has a son, 4 year old Rylan. They own a home in Naples.

So anything that we can do collectively as a family and as a community to help each other goes a long way. got wind of Laces of Love from his wife, who has been back at FGCU completing her degree. She graduate in December. A class required her to get involved with a nonprofit organization in the area, and she chose Laces of Love after talking with Nealon. Sale soon followed suit.

started talking to Jeanne, and Jeanne is as in love with this as anybody I ever seen in love with something, Sale said. very passionate about it. She has pictures of her with shoes all over her entire house, doing this for the kids. FGCU officials will collect new shoes and donations for Laces of Love before and during the men home basketball games against Lipscomb on Jan. 29 and against Northern Kentucky on Jan. 31. Sale FGCU jersey, No. 41, will be retired during the NKU game.

Sale spoke to FGCU fans about Laces of Love which provided 9,000 children with shoes last year at halftime of last Saturday night home win against Jacksonville.

Sale signed a five year contract extension with the White Sox in 2013. He will make $850,000 this year, but that vaults to $3.5 million in 2016, $6 million in 2017, etc. So there will be much more giving back. Brianne degree is designed to help establish a Chris Sale Foundation.
